Having a former Accreditation Program Manager for the New York State Police on our staff allows us to offer a wide-ranging scale of assistance to a police department seeking to become accredited.
An accredited Police Department has many benefits for a municipality.
The program is administered through the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS). DCJS has published the following goals a Police Department will achieve through accreditation:
- To increase the effectiveness and efficiency of law enforcement agencies utilizing existing personnel, equipment and facilities to the extent possible
- To promote increased cooperation and coordination among law enforcement agencies and other agencies of the criminal justice services
- To ensure the appropriate training of law enforcement personnel
- To promote public confidence in law enforcement agencies
Accreditation has also been shown to make a municipality more enticing to a company seeking a new business location.

The most difficult challenge a Police Department will face during the accreditation process is a revision of current policy or procedures to meet accreditation standards. This can be especially difficult when a conflict exists between the accreditation standard and local law or a current collective bargaining agreement. Our staff has extensive experience resolving these issues.
